The Digital Library of Castile-La Mancha progresses and renews in the direction of more effective dissemination through the network and to preserve digitally the riches collections that are retained in the libraries of Castile-La Mancha.
Thanks to the scanning, and the allocation of metadata to digital records provides the maximum visibility to each of the works digitized, that the researchers can have access to these funds through the network and even directly to the works using the browsers most known.
Also, the scanning and the allocation of metadata is an important step toward the digital preservation of some bibliographic materials that in some cases, specifically those printed after the second half of the nineteenth century, are threatened by the nature acid of the paper that were printed and that inevitably tends to the disappearance.
The Digital Library of Castile-La Mancha is a new step, based mainly on the standardization, of a comprehensive draft accessibility digital of their collections and is now in the line of action of the Ministry of Culture to promote the establishment of repositories and digital resources, of standardized form, with the aim to facilitate the common access to the extensive collections that make up the Spanish bibliographical heritage.
For many years the libraries of this region have collaborated with the Bibliographic Heritage Union Catalogue and much of its funds are already contained in this important resource. The digitalization project, the creation of repositories, approval of metadata and participation in the Virtual Library of Bibliographical Heritage and in the Virtual Library of Historical Press are steps with the same target: to preserve the most valuable bibliographical material and simultaneously make it known more broadly.
One of the fundamental objectives to be pursued with this project is to give the maximum visibility and allow the widest possible access and very in particular through large projects such as that involves the creation of the European Digital Library, which is beginning to be known and work with the beginning to be known and operate under the name of Europeana or Europeana Local.
There is no doubt that digitization and the systematic use of metadata schemes resolves this apparent contradiction (preservation and access) in the most satisfactory way. The Digital Library of Castile-La Mancha expects that researchers and users agree with this assessment and benefit from this powerful service that the now is offer.
